    Why do time of day usage rates exist? Seniors, stay at home parents, etc. are not going to do laundry after 7 at night but many can't afford the extra to do it in the daytime.

    Great question! The price of electricity is set by the Ontario Energy Board and varies based on supply and demand. When more people, businesses and industries are using electricity, during ‘on-peak’ hours, more expensive types of generation need to be used so the price is higher. When less electricity is being used – weekends and evenings when many businesses and industries are closed, less expensive types of generation can be used so the price is lower.

    We don’t set those prices, they are standard across the province and are set twice a year by the Ontario Energy Board. Everyone in the province pays the same time-of-use prices. You can find out more about how those prices are set by visiting www.oeb.ca

    Halton Hills Hydro’s portion of the bill is part of the Delivery line. We keep about 24% of your bill. The rest is passed through to generators, transmitters and the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO).
